Build the Future: The Development of a Registered Nurse Case Manager Fellowship
ABSTRACT
A RN Case Manager Fellowship was developed to recruit and educate clinical RNs with a desire to enter the RN Case Manager (CM) specialty. Historically, the RN CM is a hard to fill position based on the organizational job qualifications including three years of acute nursing experience, one year of Case Management experience and certification (CCM or ACM) preference. Also, RN CM positions are in high demand due to competition within the health care and insurance industries. The poster describes key components in the development of a RN CM Fellowship program at a tertiary academic medical center setting. A team of managers, supervisors, RN case managers and a nursing education specialist created the curriculum design and identified content experts to deliver the 14-week program. The quality outcomes for the fellowship have all been met including ≥ 90% retention rate of RN Case Managers in the first year.
