ABSTRACT

The integration of both entry-level and advanced-level AACN (American Association of Colleges of Nursing) competencies into a nursing program offering a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Direct Entry option will ensure that graduates possess the necessary knowledge and skills to provide high-quality, evidence-based care in various healthcare settings.
To achieve this integration, our program has incorporated the entry-level and advanced level AACN competencies and sub-competencies, which include foundational knowledge and skills related to nursing practice, communication, critical thinking, and cultural sensitivity as well as emphasizing leadership, evidence-based practice, and healthcare policy for leaders. These competencies serve as the basis for building a strong nursing foundation for students entering the program with diverse educational backgrounds.
Objectives: The reader will be able to:
1. Identify at least five of the ten AACN domains of nursing competence.
2. Articulate one strategy for measuring the attainment of AACN competencies and sub-competencies.
