From Patient to Partner: How My Pain Journey Can Shape Your Nursing Care in Arizona
ABSTRACT
For over 20 years, I’ve lived with algoneurodystrophy (RSD/CRPS), a rare chronic pain condition that makes every day a challenge. As Barby Ingle, 2025 Chronic Pain Awareness Specialist of the Year, I aim to share how my journey can partner with nurses’ expertise to transform care across Arizona. Nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare, vital for connecting patients like me to effective solutions in rural and urban communities. This poster presents real-world evidence (RWE) from my pain logs, app data, and care team interactions, highlighting treatments like physical therapy and nerve blocks that outperform opioids. In Arizona, where rural patients often travel hours for care, nurses can use patient-driven data to advocate for non-opioid therapies, bridge access gaps, and personalize care. By showcasing practical strategies and policy impacts (e.g., Arizona’s SB1162/SB1469/HB2291/HB2380), this poster aligns with the AzNA 2025 theme, “Navigating Arizona’s Future: Connecting Nurses, Communities and Care.” It empowers nurses to leverage patient experiences to address disparities, enhance outcomes, and build a healthcare community where no one suffers alone. Together, we can make care individualized, practical, and possible, shaping a brighter future for Arizona’s chronic pain patients.
